rebecca-abridged:

weekend.
we had our family’s annual Hungarian Feast in celebration of my grandmother’s birthday. My cousin and I made:
Cucumber Salad
Stuffed Cabbage
Cabbage & Noodles (kapusta tasta - I have no idea how to spell “tasta” and I tried to look it up to no avail. I am not sure if this is even what the world calls it, or if it’s just my family)
Chicken Paprikash (the delicious non-lard white meat version in photo— but we made a dark meat lard version too…of which I tasted none)
Homemade Spatzle (pronounced Spets-lees or shpets-lees)
Green Pumpkin Soup (we make it every year, but I don’t think it is Hungarian and it certainly is NOT a family recipe)
We also bought a variety case of Hungarian wines— some were good, some weren’t. We tried to get Tokaj (nasty tasting “Bulls Blood” wine that they put on their heads in a dance), but I don’t think we had any.
And we bought dobos torte (pronounced doe-bosh tort-a) from a Hungarian baker who has a booth at the flea market.

Sounds like a wonderful feast! If you are allowed to share these recipes please do, especially the Chicken Paprikash or anything with a lot of paprika because I love it. I tried Chicken Paprikash once and I  mutilated it : ( I would love to try it again.
